The Den for Grieving Kids – 30 Years!

The Junior League of Greenwich founded the Den for Grieving Kids in 1993. At this time there was no bereavement group for families in the area, and the program filled a large need in the community’s public services. The Den is modeled after the Dougy Center in Portland, Maine, and is now operated by Family Centers.

The Den For Grieving Kids provides a safe, caring place for children, teens and families to explore their feelings about the loss of a parent, sibling or other family member and begin the journey toward healing. Children and their families participate in groups led by professionals and trained volunteer facilitators.

This year the Den for Grieving Kids turned 30 years old, and Family Centers recognized the Junior League with their Founders Award. The video below was created in honor of the anniversary.

The Den for Grieving Kids is one example of a JLG program that continues to give to the community. This program helps define our organization and makes us proud to be a part of the JLG. What we do matters.
