To help ease food insecurity in Greenwich, the Junior League of Greenwich invites Greenwich residents to join in on our first Community Harvest Sunday Supper on Sunday October 25, 2020. Proceeds from this dinner will support the JLG’s community projects including Done in a Day, Community Matters and Done in a Year’s efforts to provide groceries and food for Greenwich residents who face hunger in our community, and whose current income can’t cover basic necessities like food, housing, transportation and childcare.
Done in a Year, a newly formed Junior League of Greenwich committee, will help tackle food insecurity in the Greenwich area over the next 9 months by assisting Greenwich non-profits including the Neighbor to Neighbor food pantry, which is currently serving almost double the number of clients now, as compared to March 2020. Meals on Wheels has seen a similar increase in need. Additionally, the Junior League of Greenwich is researching other projects to address food insecurity including building a community garden, organizing a variety of food and gift card drives, educating the low income residents on gardening and composting. Done in a Day and Community Matters are also focused on solving hunger issues with lower income residents.
The Junior League of Greenwich President, Clarena McBeth, is passionate about partnering with other non-profits to help people in need. “With more than 400,000 Connecticut residents struggling with hunger and more than 117,000 children identifying as food insecure, the JLG is dedicating their efforts to help with food insecurity in the town of Greenwich, finding ways to address the immediate need, especially during the pandemic. The JLG has always been devoted to improving our town and addressing needs as they arise. Our membership realizes this is a vital moment for all hands on deck to help people who really need us. We are here to help.”
