Kids in the Kitchen (KIK) is a nation-wide Junior League program designed to empower our youth to make healthy lifestyle choices and reduce childhood obesity and its associated health issues. The program consists of a hands-on cooking class to teach children about nutrition and how to make healthy food choices. It is followed by a fun, game-based exercise lesson. Four or more programs are conducted by the KIK committee each year and addresses a different audience each time.
This hands-on, interactive program is fun, while at the same time it teaches the importance of both good nutrition and an active life style. The Junior League of Greenwich and Greenwich Hospital partner together to run this program.
Kids in the Kitchen is part of a larger initiative of the Association of Junior Leagues International. In February of 2006, Junior Leagues from across four countries implemented an international initiative called Junior Leagues' Kids in the Kitchen (JLKIK), designed to help communities address the urgent issues surrounding childhood obesity and poor nutrition. Since inception, JLKIK and KIK continue to exist around the world and have successfully educated thousands of children about the importance of nutrition and an active lifestyle.
